All of us at KVPI 92.5 were in a holiday mood. We got down the Christmas tree and decorations today and played lots of Christmas music. It was 69 years ago Tuesday that this location was the new home of Ville Platte's brand new radio station. The call letters chosen by the F.C.C. was KVPI.. The original staff that assembled on that Sunday morning included Chris Duplechain, the first general manager. Laura Lou Soileau, receptionist, L.D. "Bootsie" Cappell, DJ and Sports announcer, "Moon" Carson and Guy Mitchell, sales people and Dr. J.S. Fontenot, DJ and Chief Engineer. Since that very first day, a lot of DJ's and employees have come and gone, we have changed musical formats many times, we now have two FM radio stations, and we are now streaming on the internet,. Still our core mission statement has not changed: Keeping Ville Platte Informed and Entertained. We have always believed in serving our local and area listeners with local news, local sports, and promoting our French culture and language. Thank you to our cherished listeners and clients who have supported us through these past 69 years . We are planning a big event next November to celebrate our 70th anniversary so be watching for it.
