KVPI Road Crew on live remote at Ville Platte Cricket Wireless Store

The Classic Hits 92.5 road crew was on the road for the first of three days of live remotes at the new Cricket Wireless store in Ville Platte near Walmart off LaSalle Street. The road crew, John Hadley and Mark Layne were there giving away T shirts and coozies and talking with the store crew and Cricket corporate personnel. We will be there on remote again Friday from 4-5pm and Saturday from 2-3pm. The store was giving away free food today from Cravin's Food truck. Friday, they will be announcing a new free I-Phone promotion.Be sure to come by and say hello Friday.

Welcome John Hadley as our new Sales Account Represenative

KVPI would like to welcome the newest member of our sales staff: John Hadley. John is a native of Ville Platte and is currently residing in Opelousas. He is the son of Sally Dupre and Kenneth Hadley of Ville Platte. He is married to Suzette Simoneaux and they are the parents of two children: Grace and Wade. John will be calling on businesses in our area to offer special packages to help increase their business. Please join us in welcoming John Hadley to the KVPI family.

Swamp Pop Star Rod Bernard died Sunday

Swamp Pop Legend Rod Bernard Died Sunday July 12, 2020 Swamp Pop music legend and long time broadcaster Rod Bernard died Sunday in New Iberia after a short (Non Covid) illness. He was 79 years old. Rod Bernard was a native of Opelousas. At eight years old, he got his first guitar and around 1950, he began performing with the "The Blue Room Gang" over KSLO in Opelousas sponsored by Dezauche Feed Store. In 1957, he formed a rock n roll band called "The Twisters" and recorded two singles for the Carl label. In 1959, he recorded "The Should Go on Forever" for Floyd Soileau's "Jin Records". It became a national hit. He appeared on many national shows including Alan Freed Show and American Bandstand. He also toured with greats like Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry. In the early 60's Rod recorded for the Hall-Way record label in Beaumont, Texas for Bill Hall. He recorded favorites like "Colinda". Rod Bernard served his country in the Marine Corps. After his hitch was over, he formed a band called "The Shondells" with Warren Storm and Skip Stewart, The band recorded for La Louisianne Records and hosted a dance show on TV 10 "The Saturday Hop". Rod's broadcasting career included a long stint with KVOL in Lafayette. He later moved to KLFY TV 10 where he was a sales account representative and host of Meet Your Neighbor. He continued to perform at special events including the annual Swamp Pop Reunion Dance in Ville Platte for many years and at fairs and festivals. He visited KVPI often and we did several interviews through the years. KVPI plans to spotlight Rod's music this Friday and play back one of his early interviews.

KVPI AM/FM in Ville Platte is growing and expanding our workforce. We are ready to hire a full time DJ. The successful candidate will have a daily on air shift, production work, update our social sites and websites and work on promotions and contests. Experience is helpful but not necessary. We can train the right candidate. The successful candidate will read well, be a high school graduate, and have adequate transportation. Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI Road Crew will be in Opelousas Saturday for the Air Show Fly-In

Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI is teaming up with St. Landry Parish Tourism Commission to promote the Second Annual Air Show this Friday through Sunday at the St. Landry Parish Airport in Opelousas. Vintage World War Two planes will be on display and will be offering plane rides, along with live music, food and Classic Cars. We will be giving away free passes to the show in the morning Friday with Kenny and with Swabby in the afternoon. The Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI road crew, Tuney and Mark will be broadcasting live on remote from the show Saturday morning. Come by and say hello.

Congratulations to our winning Father: David Guillory

Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI has selected its grand prize winner in our "Who's Your Daddy" Father's Day contest. Our judges had nearly 100 nominations to review. We want to congratulate our winning father: David Guillory of Mamou. David was nominated by his wife, Samantha. Here is what she wrote with her nomination: "My husband David Guillory would really love this prize. Not only has this wonderful man raised his four kids but also stood by my side and has raised my three children since they were two years old. He has worked hard all of his life to provide for his family and recently has been laid off from the oil field. This would truly give him the best Father's Day! Fans of 80's music will want to look forward to our interview with Singer/Actor Rick Springfield scheduled for Tuesday at 12:30pm on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI. The interview will focus on his brand new song and interesting video "The Wall Will Fall". We will also talk about his time as an actor as Dr. Noah Drake on "General Hospital". Class of 2020 Honor Students Interviews Scheduled on KVPI

KVPI has plans to broadcast the interviews we did in the last few days with honor students from our parish high schools. All of these students were chosen either as Valedictorian or Salutatorian of their Class of 2020. You can hear all of the interviews as a group Wednesday at 12:30pm on KVPI AM and FM. We also plan to upload the interviews to our podcast folder on our classichits925.com website for those who miss it live. Sheriff Posse St. Jude Drawing

Evangeline Parish Sheriff 's Mounted Posse Drawing May 8, 2020 The Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Mounted Posse held their annual benefit drawing today at KVPI studios for the benefit of St. Jude Hospital in Memphis. Usually the drawing is held during their annual trail ride but the ride was cancelled this year due to the Corona Virus. The raffle tickets and donations amounted to $2959 according to Ralph Daigle with the Sheriff's Posse. In the 16 years, the posse has been conducted their annual raffle, they have raised $185,000 for St. Jude's Hospital. Among those in attendance at KVPI for the drawing were Ralph Daigle, his daughter, Clarissa Daigle, Joe Fontenot and Sheriff Elect Charles Guillory who did the drawing from the hundreds of names. Congratulations to the three winners: First Prize Winner- Cody Manuel; Second Prize winner of $100 -Tawane Fontenot and Third Prize winner of $50- Marlin Arvie.

Welcome DJ Lauren to the KVPI Family

Would you join me in welcoming the newest member to the KVPI family of announcers? Please welcome DJ Lauren who will handle the Saturday afternoon shift from 12 noon to 6;00pm playing your favorite Classic Hits from the 70's, 80's and 90's. She will become a third generation DJ over KVPI. Her grandfather Nick Soileau worked as a DJ back in the 70's. Her great grand father, Jim Soileau, was among the first DJ's when the station first signed on in 1953 , later became general manager and is still working with us as a French announcer. We're excited to introduce a new one hour music show dedicated to the music and events of the 1960's. The show will air Monday through Friday from 5-6pm on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI. An incredible decade of musical styles and news events, movies and TV shows. From the Beach Boys and the Mamas and Papas, to the British Invasion groups like the Beatles and Rolling Stones to the sounds of Motown like the Supremes and the Four Tops. You'll hear it all from one of the largest libraries of 60's music in the state. Our DJ's, Tuney on Monday and Thursday and Gram on Tuesday and Wednesday will be taking your requests at 506-2444. KVPI wins "Uniquely Louisiana" award for the La Tasse de Cafe radio show from La. Broadcasters

The Louisiana Association of Broadcasters held its annual Prestige awards ceremony today in Baton Rouge. KVPI FM 92.5 was honored to receive the "Uniquely Louisiana" award for airing the popular "La Tasse de Cafe" radio show. The bilingual call-in radio show has grown dramatically over its 50 year history. The original hosts were Jim Soileau and the late Dan Andrus and began as a once a week half hour show. The show has grown and evolved to become an hour long four day a week show with hosts Jim Soileau, Charlie Manuel, Mike Perron and Mark Layne. Internet streaming has brought new listeners from throughout the country and other countries. KVPI General Manager Mark Layne would like to thank Polly Johnson and the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters for this recognition. A special thanks to Mallory Moser for her hard work in gathering and preparing the nomination. He said " I am proud to share this award for everyone who enjoys our local Cajun French programming including our French News. Thank you to every member of our staff and to the President of Ville Platte Broadcasting Company, Dr. Rhonda Fink Pucheu, a second generation broadcaster, for her continued support of everything we do."

Our Winning Valentine Couple Came to KVPI

Our winning couple in the Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI Valentine contest, Brent and Courtney Fontenot, came to KVPI today to collect their winning prizes which included a meal for two, movie tickets, a hotel stay, flowers, pedicure and manicure and Yetti mugs..
