Swamp Pop Music Legend V.J. Boulet Passes Away

Swamp Pop Legend V.J. Boulet Passed Away January 18, 2023 The Swamp Pop world has lost another music legend. KVPI News has learned that V.J. "Boo Boo" Boulet has passed away after a lengthy illness. V.J. Boulet began his music career as a member of Bobby Page and the Riff Raffs. He played the piano. He and Bobby "Boo Ga" Page were school classmates at Rayne High School and lifelong friends. The band did a personal appearance at KVPI studios a short time after their first record was released in 1956 at the original KVPI location. Boulet told us there was a large group of high school girls waiting for them when they got back in their car. In Fact, the police had to be called out. Their first record was called "Loneliness.". Boulet later worked for KATC TV 3 and played the part of the Professor on the "Polycarp" TV show every morning. He told the show was totally unscripted. He later went into the nightclub business and did very well with "Boo Boo's" nightclub. Boulet wrote some great original songs for Passe Partout host Jim Olivier including " I Love My Saturday Nights" and "The Marriage of Pic and Poc." He was notified a few years ago that a song he wrote in 1958, that was a B side of a record for the Riff Raffs "I Love My Baby", was included in the soundtrack of one of the top movies of the year " Green Book". When KVPI celebrated our 60th birthday in 2013, Boulet was asked to write and record a special anniversary song. He came through and hand delivered a CD with the special birthday song that we played throughout the day. He will be missed. R.I.P.
