Pony League Tournament a big success this past weekend in Ville Platte

PONY LEAGUE SECTIONAL TOURNAMENT

JUNE 27, 2016

 

    It was one of the largest number of people  that assembled this past weekend at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex for the first ever Pony League Sectional Softball tournament.

    Tournament Director and Complex Manager Thomas Scully told KVPI News that the tournament was a big success. There were a total of 46 teams that participated in the three day tournament. The only downside was the oppressive heat. Two of the umpires were overcome with the heat. None of the girls were overcome.

    Hundreds of people packed the complex and the City Park fields for the three day tournament.

   Two of the Ville Platte teams took first place: the 6 and under and 10 and under teams won their category. The Ville Platte 8 and under girls took second place honors. Three of the Rayne teams took first place: the 8 and under, 12 and under and 14 and under girls.

   Scully reported that it looks good for the city to receive the Sectional tournament again next year.

   On behalf of the city and the recreation board, Scully would like to thank all of the officials and volunteers for making the softball tournament a big success.

   Ville Platte 12 year old Dixie Majors beat Oakdale 15-3 in the Subdistrict tournament in Leesville clinching the championship. The team went through the entire tournament undefeated. They ended the tournament with 55 runs and 8 home runs. The Dixie Majors advance to play this weekend in Deridder in the District tournament. The first game is set for Thursday night at 7:30pm as they play Sulpher Continental. KVPI Sports is making arrangements to carry the games.

 The Mamou 13 and 14 year old boys all stars finished third in a warm up tournament this weekend. Their next tournament is scheduled in two weeks.

 In girls softball action at the Pony Softball Sectional tournament in Ville Platte where some 50 teams participated.

   The Ville Platte 6 and under girls went through the tournament undefeated. They beat Moss Bluff 16-15 to clinch the Sectional Championship.

    The Ville Platte 10 and under girls all stars clinched the championship title by beating Rayne 7-5. They went through the tournament undefeated.

   The Ville Platte 8 and under girls all stars came in second place losing to Rayne in the championship game.

   KVPI Sports did not receive any final scores on how the Ville Platte Red Hots girls team did in the tournament.

   In another girls score from a parish team, the Pine Prairie Dixie Belles beat Vernon International 16-15 last night for the district championship. Pine Prairie went through their tournament undefeated. The team advances to play in the state tournament in Oakdale on July 16.

Ville Platte 8 and under girls undefeated ready to play in championship today

Girls Softball Action at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex in the Pony League Sectional Tournament: The Ville Platte 8 and under All Star girls beat Rayne 9-4. In the semi finals this morning the girls beat Scott 13-0. Our 8 and under girls are undefeated in this tournament and will play in the championship game today at 3;30 against the winner the Rayne and Iowa. Good luck girls!!

Ville Platte 8 and under girls win in Softball Tournament

The Ville Platte 8 and under girls all stars defeated Gonzales 9-1 in the Pony League Sectional Softball Tournament going on in Ville Platte today. Their next game is scheduled for Sunday at 9:15 against Rayne. Good luck girls.

Ville Platte 8 Year Olds loses to Moss Bluff South

In the Dixie Youth 8 year old all Pitching Machine District Tournament in Moss Bluff, the Ville Platte All Stars lost to Moss Bluff South Saturday afternoon. The finals core was: Moss Bluff South 7 and Ville Platte 4. With the loss, Ville Platte was eliminated from the tournament., KVPI would like to congratulate all of the  Ville Platte all star boys  and coaches for representing us well in the tournament.

In The District tournament in Moss Bluff, the Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine All Stars lost to Vernon National 5-4 in the first game of bracket play. The game aired on KVPI AM. The Ville Platte All Stars will next play at 4:00pm on KVPI FM 92.5.

 

The Ville Platte 8 and under All Stars beat Youngsville this morning 12-3 at the Pony League Sectional Tournament in Ville Platte. They will next play at 7:15 against the winner of Moss Bluff and Gonzales.

Update on the Ville Platte 8 year old all stars playing in Moss Bluff in the District Tournament, Ville Platte beat Sulpher 20-4 in a game broadcast over KVPI AM Friday. They will next play at 1:00pm on KVPI FM today with KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.

 

Here is an update on the Girls Pony League Sectional tournament going on at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex: The Ville Platte 6 and under girls all stars Friday: Ville Platte 16 Moss Bluff 12 in the first game; Game two: Ville Platte 15 and St Landry Youth Association 9. Dixie Youth Tournament Update

In Sports news, the Ville Platte 8 year old Pitching Machine All Stars won their first two games of the District Tournament in Moss Bluff. Ville Platte beat Oberlin 9-7 in the first game and in game two, Ville Platte beat Vinton 12-11 in extra innings. Both games were broadcast over KVPI FM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.The 8 year old all stars will next play at 6:30 tonight on KVPI AM.

 

Also the Ville Platte 12 year olds Dixie Youth Majors began Sub District play in Leesville last night. The 12’s beat Vernon by a score of 7-2. They will next play again Saturday at 10:00am again Mamou.

VILLE PLATTE 8 YEAR OLDS COMPETE IN DISTRICT TOURNAMENT

    The Ville Platte 8 year old All Stars will compete in the Dixie Youth District tournament in Moss Bluff. The tournament begins with pool play on Thursday and Friday. The Ville Platte all stars will play the following games: Thursday at 5;00pm: against Oberlin and then at 8:15pm Thursday against Vinton. They will next play their final pool play game Friday night at 6;30pm against Sulpher National Bracket play will begin Saturday afternoon through Sunday. KVPI Sports is making arrangements to carry all of their games on KVPI FM and KVPI AM with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.

    The team includes: Ashton Duos, Elliot Fontenot, Ellis Chapman, Ellis Fuselier, Gunner Landreneau, Colton LaFleur, Gavin Patin, Atticus Lafleur, Samuel Lafleur, Samuel Lafleur, Sam Veillon and Landon Marcantel.

   The coaches are : Manager- Ross Duos, and Assistants: Duke Lafleur, Joffre Fuselier and Lance Chapman.

Ville Platte will host major Pony League Softball Tournament this Weekend

PONY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT COMING TO VILLE PLATTE THIS WEEKEND

 

    The City of Ville Platte, for the first time ever, will be hosting a major softball tournament this weekend, June 24-26, at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex and at the Northside City Park. Recreational Park Director Thomas Scully told KVPI Sports in a recorded interview that the 2016 East Side Pony Coast Regional Section Softball Tournament will take place here.

     Ville Platte, along with ten other cities and towns will be fielding teams at the tournament: Kinder, Iowa, New Iberia, Church Point, Crowley, Youngsville, Rayne, Jennings, Kaplan and Mamou.. Each of these towns will bring up to four teams each. Scully expects up to 46 teams at this tournament. Those teams who win in each age category will advance to compete in the regional tournament later this month in Crowley. This year’s World Series for the Pony League girls will be held in Youngsville.

    Scully is urging local stores and businesses and especially restaurants to prepare for the  large number of people who will be in town for the weekend. He expects it will be a major financial impact for the community.

    Local residents are invited to come watch the games. There will be no admission charge at the gate for this tournament.

   Ville Platte will field four girls softball teams in this tournament: 6 and under ( head coach Sunny Beth LaHaye), Red Hots (with head coach Todd Ardoin), 8 and under(with head coach Jason Fontenot) and  the 10 and under girls (with head coach Shane Darbonne).

Ville Platte T Ball All Stars Win First Place in Vidalia Tournament

Congratulations to the Ville Platte T-Ball All Stars for taking first place in a warm up tournament in Vidalia this weekend. The team includes: Jax Fontenot, Payton Veillon, Landon Fontenot, Brecken Figueiredo, Braden Ortego, Levi Kneeley, Sully Manuel, Aiden Lambright, Aiden Benoit, Dax Landry, Tristen Manuel and Mika Thibodeaux. The coaches are Nick Fontenot, Jake Veillon, Justin Johnson and Jody Fontenot.

Ville Platte Super Tens Win 3 of 4 games in Sub District Tournament

Ville Platte Super Tens All Stars Wins 3 of 4 in Sub District Tournament

The Ville Platte Super Ten year old all-stars completed the sub district tournament in Pine Prairie Sunday winning 3 of 4 games in a round robin tournament.
The all -stars had two long rain delayed games during the weekend both Saturday and Sunday.
Ville Platte’s only loss came at the hands of Mamou on Saturday with Mamou’s all -stars beating Ville Platte 6-0.
The Ville Platte all-stars will advance to play in the Dixie Youth District Tournament June 30 in Oberlin.
KVPI Sports covered all four games with Sports Announcer Micah Chatman.
Congratulations to the Ville Platte All Stars and all teams that participated in the tournament.

Ville Platte T-Ball All Stars Take Second Place

The Ville Platte T-Ball All Stars take second place honors in a recent T-Ball warm up tournament. Congratulations to the coaches: Nick Fontenot, Jake Veillon, Justin Johnson and Jody Fontenot.

The team is comprised of Jax Fontenot, Payton Veillon, Landon Fontenot, Brecken Figueiredo, Braydon Ortego, Levi Kneely, Sully Manuel, Aiden Lambright, Aiden Benoit, Dax Landry, Tristen Manuel and Mike Thibodeaux.

KVPI Sports to broadcast Ville Platte Super Tens games in tournament starting Thursday through Sunday

KVPI Sports plans to carry the Ville Platte Super Ten Year Old All Stars as they compete in the Sub District Tournament beginning Thursday and Friday at 5:30, 12 noon Saturday and at 3;00pm on Sunday all over KVPI FM 92.5 with KVPI Sports Announcer Micah Chatman. Ville Platte Girls Teams do well in warm up tournament in Rayne

The Ville Platte 10U and 8U girls all star teams did well in a warm up tournament held this weekend in Rayne. The Ville Platte 10U girls coached by Shane Darbonne, James Shiver, Todd Ardoin and Travis Johnson took first place honors.

The Ville Platte 8U girls all stars coached by Jason Fontenot, Brian Bergeron, Mike Veillon and Katra Brignac came out second place in the tournament.

Congratulations. All of the local girls teams will travel to Gonzales next weekend for a final warm up before the big Regional tournament here in Ville Platte.

LSU Will host Super Regional in Baton Rouge this weekend

LSU HOSTS SUPER REGIONAL


   KVPI Sports plans to cover the NCAA Super Regional baseball tournament hosted by LSU this weekend.

    LSU will take on Coastal Carolina at 8:00pm Saturday and Sunday night and if need be a third game Monday at noon. You will be able to hear all the action on the LSU Sports Network on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI.

    Should LSU win the Super Regional, they will advance and play in the NCAA College World Series beginning June 18 in Omaha. We will be there covering all of the LSU action.

LSU Tiger action as they host a NCAA Regional Tournament this Weekend

Tune in to the first round of the first round of the Baton Rouge NCAA regional baseball tournament with LSU hosts Utah Valley. The game has been on a rain delay since 2;00pm. It is due to be played shortly. You can hear the game on Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI. We will continue follow of the LSU Tiger games through the weekend. Should LSU advance, we will follow them in the Super Regional next weekend.
