Ville Platte will host major Pony League Softball Tournament this Weekend

PONY LEAGUE TOURNAMENT COMING TO VILLE PLATTE THIS WEEKEND

The City of Ville Platte, for the first time ever, will be hosting a major softball tournament this weekend, June 24-26, at the Ville Platte Recreational Complex and at the Northside City Park. Recreational Park Director Thomas Scully told KVPI Sports in a recorded interview that the 2016 East Side Pony Coast Regional Section Softball Tournament will take place here.

Ville Platte, along with ten other cities and towns will be fielding teams at the tournament: Kinder, Iowa, New Iberia, Church Point, Crowley, Youngsville, Rayne, Jennings, Kaplan and Mamou.. Each of these towns will bring up to four teams each. Scully expects up to 46 teams at this tournament. Those teams who win in each age category will advance to compete in the regional tournament later this month in Crowley. This year’s World Series for the Pony League girls will be held in Youngsville.

Scully is urging local stores and businesses and especially restaurants to prepare for the  large number of people who will be in town for the weekend. He expects it will be a major financial impact for the community.

Local residents are invited to come watch the games. There will be no admission charge at the gate for this tournament.

Ville Platte will field four girls softball teams in this tournament: 6 and under ( head coach Sunny Beth LaHaye), Red Hots (with head coach Todd Ardoin), 8 and under(with head coach Jason Fontenot) and  the 10 and under girls (with head coach Shane Darbonne).
