Perfect Fall weather drew families from all of the KVPI listening area to Pine Prairie today to attend the St. Peter's Catholic Church Fall Festival. The Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI road crew was there broadcasting live this morning and meeting a lot friends and listeners during our broadcast. The 2018 Savoy Cancer Center Breast Cancer Awareness Walk/Run was held this morning under beautiful sunny skies. A capaicty crowd of participants took part in the walk all for the benefit of indigent cancer patients. The highlight was the survivors walk featuring cancer survivors. KVPI 92.5 's Becky Vidrine and Annona Balfa were there in Mamou covering it live and even took a picture with a snake.
A walk through the past brought visitors to Washington this weekend for the Washington Old School House Fall Antique Fair. The weather was perfect for antique shopping outside on the school house yard and inside the many rooms of the school house. The Classic Hits 92.5 road crew, Becky and Josh, were there Friday afternoon to view the displays and talk with some of the exhibitors. The fair continues through Sunday.

Despite the rainy weather outside, the annual La Tasse de Cafe Reunion gathering was a big success. The dining area in the rear of Main Street Pizza in Ville Platte was packed with friends, well wishers and listeners of the popular radio program. Listeners from Prairie Rhonde, Mamou, Eunice and other areas attended.
Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and City Councilman Mike Perron welcomed the crowds. Police Juror Eric Soileau from Mamou was also there.
One of the highlights were the students from mamou Elementary enrolled in the French Immersion program along with the three Immersion Teachers. The students led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance in French and sang "The Mardi Gras song.
The Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI road crew was at your Ville Platte McDonald's restaurant today to help promote their Grand Reopening. The restaurant has had a complete facelift, inside and out, with new features like new touch screen kiosks and table service. The Mamou High School Cheerleaders visited KVPI studios this afternoon to record special cheers including a custom Classic 92.5 KVPI cheer. The cheers will air throughout football season. KVPI, the local LSU Sports Network affiliate, is sponsoring a “Meet and Greet” the current “Voice of the LSU Tigers” Chris Blair. Chris will be at KVPI studios Tuesday July 24 at 1:30pm to meet with fans of the LSU Tigers and the KVPI LSU sponsors. Come have your picture taken with Chris Blair and ask him your questions about LSU football. He will attend the Rotary Club meeting that day at noon then record an interview with KVPI to be played later in the week.
Chris Blair has been the “Voice of the Tigers” after joining the LSU Sports Network and calling his first season of baseball games at LSU in the spring of 2016.
Blair, Georgia Southern's radio voice for the past 10 seasons, was named in June 2015 as the next “Voice of the Tigers” and he officially joined the LSU Athletics Department on Dec. 7, 2015.
Blair's resume covers virtually all aspects of broadcasting, with broadcast management and marketing positions in Greenville and Columbia, South Carolina. Blair basically grew up inside a radio station, working at age 14 for his father, also a long-time broadcaster. His college broadcast experience includes working for the Clemson Tiger Sports Network and at Lander University.
Blair spent 10 years as play-by-play announcer for prep powerhouse Greenwood High School in South Carolina and handled the play-by-play for four state championship football games at Williams-Brice Stadium in Columbia, South Carolina.
Along with his play-by-play duties for Georgia Southern, Blair handled all the behind-the-scenes aspects with affiliate relations, network marketing plans and overall sound presentation of GSU Athletics on the air and on the Internet. He also hosted the weekly coaches radio shows and was the host for the weekly television show for GSU basketball.
Blair, 44, is married to the former Amber Anders and they have two children, Crafton Christopher and Rivers Elis

KVPI General Manager Mark Layne announced today that Carly Chaumont has been named "News Director" for KVPI AM and FM. Layne remarked that she has been covering meetings and filing news stories for several months. "I am very pleased at the work she is doing as a reporter covering all of our local meetings to keep our listeners informed." She has earned the title of KVPI News Director from the hard work she has been doing. Carly is a graduate of LSU Alexandria in communications. In addition to her news duties, Carly is an account representative for KVPI 1050 The Legend and Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI FM. She has been an employee for the past three years.

KVPI Sponsoring Open House Wednesday to honor retiring Bonnie Fontenot

KVPI AM/FM and its parent company, Ville Platte Broadcasting Company, are inviting the general public to attend an open house Wednesday May 30 to honor long time KVPI Office Manager and Bookkeeper Bonnie Fontenot. She will be retiring at the end of the month after working more than sixty years with KVPI. Bonnie was employed in 1957 by KVPI’s first general manager Chris Duplechain as a book keeper at the station’s original home, on the second floor of the old Evangeline Bank building on Court Street. Bonnie was among the first female newscasters on local radio back in the 1960’s when she began doing the 3;00pm local news.
The open house is set for 9:00am to 12 noon May 30 at the KVPI business office at 809 West LaSalle Street. There will be cake and refreshments. Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine is expected to make a special announcement and proclamation at about 9:00am live from KVPI. Also, KVPI will be airing an interview we did with Bonnie some ten years ago when she celebrated her 50th anniversary with the radio station. That interview will air Wednesday at 12:30pm.
The KVPI staff gathered Wednesday night at Cajun Catfish to honor book keeper and office manager Bonnie Fontenot who will be retiring at the end of this month after serving more than 60 years. We enjoyed a good meal, shared personal stories on how Miss Bonnie touched each of us in so many ways and presented a plaque of appreciation. Make plans to attend our open house planned next Wednesday May 30 from 9-12 noon at KVPI. Mayor Jennifer Vidrine will be there with a proclamation naming that day "Bonnie Fontenot Day". We will have cake and refreshments. Come by and say hello to Miss Bonnie at KVPI.

KVPI is proud to welcome our newest on-air talent, Danny J to our broadcast family. Danny is a life long resident of the Ville Platte area. He is currently going to LSU at Alexandria. Ville Platte Broadcasting Company announced today that Carly Chaumont has been promoted to become an Account Representative for KVPI AM and FM.
Carly is a graduate of Pine Prairie High School and recently graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications from LSU at Alexandria. She is the daughter of Christine and Brad Chaumont and the youngest of three children. When she was a child, she struggled with a speech impediment and attended speech therapy for nearly five years. Spending a majority of her childhood learning how to communicate with others, Carly feels her current career path was meant to be.
She has been in the public eye competing in pageants for six years. She has held the titles of Miss Evangeline Parish Farm Bureau, Miss Boggy Bayou Festival, Miss Ville Platte, Miss La. Fur and Wildlife Festival, Miss Rayne Frog Festival and Miss Lafayette USA.
KVPI General Manager Mark Layne said he is pleased to have Carly as the newest member of the KVPI Sales Team. “I have seen Carly grow in the three years she has been with us as a radio announcer, journalist and now as an account representative working with retailers to grow their business. She will be an asset to our company and to the many businesses she works with”.

We did it again. KVPI FM, Classic Hits 92.5 KVPi, won Radio Station of the Year for 2018. The awards ceremony took place today in Baton Rouge sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. This is the tenth time over the past 15 years we have won this special award for radio stations in our market size. We won the award for our service to the community, local news, local sports, the number of remotes we do at fairs and festivals, and support of Swamp Pop and our Cajun French language. Also in 2017, we increased our power to 25,000 watts to reach more listeners our special programming.
Again, it was a TEAM effort. Every member of our hard working staff helped us achieve our goal. I want to personally thank Charlie Manuel, Jim Soileau, Annona Balfa, Josh Godwin, Carly Chaumont, Swabby Soileau, Gary "A.J." Ten Evangeline Parish "Students of the Year' honorees visited KVPI studios today. They toured our "on air" FM control room with DJ Josh this afternoon. Each of the students were interviewed and their comments about their favorite school courses and their plans for their future will air Wednesday at 12:30pm on KVPI AM and FM. They will be honored by the Evangeline Parish School Board next week in a special gala at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The students that visited with us include Lairian Breaux of Vidrine, Ainsley Dutton of Bayou Chicot, Prisha Makey of Ville Platte High, Leslie Forman of Ville Platte High, Aubree Guillory of Mamou. It was an incredible year for us at KVPI AM and FM. We increased our FM power to 25,000 watts to reach more listeners and advertisers. KVPI 1050 AM dropped our talk programming and went 24 hours a day playing Classic Country. For the 7th year in a row, KVPI FM won "Radio Station of the Year" for our community service. The Classic Hits 92.5 road crew was at Industrial Service and Supply today to help promote a special visit from Santa and their big holiday sale. Special thanks to Miss Sherry for co-hosting the broadcast, Matt and the whole staff for helping out. Lots of kids came to visit Santa and bought all kids of merchandise.The staff gave away prizes by answering trivia questions and their phones were busy all afternoon. Merry Christmas!
Some 40 students from Danyelle's Early Development Center toured KVPI studios this morning. They learned how our stations operate both on KVPI AM and FM. We also recorded each students wishes for Christmas and we played their comments back today at 12;30pm. Merry Christmas everybody!!

On Saturday, December 9th KVPI’s on the road crew, Becky and Carly, broadcasted live from the 2017 “Christmas in the Village” event that took place at Drouet Park in Turkey Creek, La. The event was sponsored by the Village of Turkey Creek. There was a horseback trail ride, a parade, live music, carnival rides, pony rides, a petting zoo, food, games, an antique tractor pull, local venders, a firework display and much more. Make plans to join the KVPI road crew, Annona and Mark Saturday in Mamou for the Veterans Day celebration. It is one of the oldest and finest Veterans Day observations in Louisiana. Parade lineup is at 10:00am at Mamou High with the parade stepping off at 11:00am down Sixth Street. There will be a Flag ceremony and memorial service after the parade at the American Legion Post home. The Mamou Elementary French immersion students will participate amd Gen. Ben Soileau will be the featured speaker. There will be many vendors selling food, merchandise and beverages. If you can't be there, listen to our broadcast of the parade and events at the Legion Home over KVPI 1050 AM.
