Corona Virus Update in Evangeline Parish April 30, 2020 Here are the latest statistics for Evangeline Parish as reported by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals dealing with the Corona Virus Pandemic: As of today (Thursday) Evangeline Parish has 49 confirmed cases of the virus and one death; In neighboring parishes, St. Landry recorded a total of 180 confirmed cases, and 42 deaths; In Avoyelles Parish there are 71 cases with seven deaths; and in Allen parish, 90 cases total and nine deaths. Statewide, there are now 28,001 confirmed cases, 17,303 presumed recovery and 1862 deaths.

Statewide, there are now 27,286 confirmed cases, 17,303 presumed recovery and 1758 deaths.

Statewide, there are now 26,773 confirmed cases, 14,927 presumed recovery and 1670 deaths.

Statewide, there are now 25,739 confirmed cases and 1540 deaths.

COVID 19 VIRUS UPDATE APRIL 22, 2020 The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals reported today (Wednesday) that Evangeline Parish has 44 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus and no deaths. In neighboring parishes, St. Landry Parish, we have 140 confirmed cases and 29 deaths, in Avoyelles Parish there are 71 cases and 7 deaths, and in Allen Parish there are 80 cases and 9 deaths. Statewide, there are now 25,258 cases and 1473 deaths. There are 1747 virus patients in the hospital around the state with 287 on ventilators.

COVID 19 VIRUS UPDATE APRIL 20, 2020 The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals reported today( Monday) that Evangeline Parish has 43 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus and no deaths. In neighboring parishes, St. Landry Parish, we have 136 confirmed cases and 20 deaths, in Avoyelles Parish there are 69 cases and 3 deaths, and in Allen Parish there are 79 cases and 9 deaths. Statewide, there are now 24,523 cases and 1328 deaths. There are 1794 virus patients in the hospital around the state with 332 on ventilators.

Screening and Testing for Corona Virus begins at Mercy Regional Medical Center

VILLE PLATTE, LA, Now that tests are readily available, Mercy Regional Medical Center (MRMC) is now providing a call center for COVID-19 scheduled drive-thru testing. As of Tuesday, April 21, Mercy will screen calls through the call center at 1-337-363-9475. If you meet the criteria for testing, an appointment will be set for COVID-19 testing. Those who have been screened and scheduled are allowed to come to the screening station. Testing will be handled by appointment only. MRMC asked that you please bring your Photo Identification (ex. driver's license) & Insurance Information, if available with you upon arrival. Phone screening will be available on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM; call center is 1-337-363-9475 for screening and questions related to COVID-19.

Corona Virus Update April 19, 2020 The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals has released the latest statistics on Covid-19 Virus infections in each of the parishes. In Evangeline Parish, there are 43 confirmed cases and no death. In neighboring parishes, St. Landry Parish had 134 confirmed cases and 20 deaths; In Avoyelles Parish there are 69 parishes and 3 deaths and Allen Parish here are 79 confirmed cases and 9 deaths. Statewide, there are 23,928 confirmed cases and 1296 deaths.

Corona Virus Update Report April 16, 2020 The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals announces that there are now 41 confirmed cases of the Covid-19 virus in Evangeline Parish as of today(Thursday). There are no reported deaths from the virus in our parish. In neighboring parishes, St. Landry Parish has now 118 cases with 17 deaths; In Avoyelles Parish, there are 66 cases with 3 deaths and Allen Parish with 78 cases and 9 reported deaths. Statewide, there are now 22,532 confirmed cases of the virus and 1156 virus related deaths.

Corona Virus Update April 15, 2020 Here is the latest information on confirmed cases of the Corona Virus in Evangeline Parish according to the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals. In Evangeline Parish as of Wednesday, we have 40 confirmed cases with no deaths. In neighboring parishes, St. Landry Parish has 116 confirmed cases with 16 deaths, in Avoyelles Parish there are 64 cases and three deaths and Allen Parish there are now 74 confirmed and eight reported deaths. Statewide, there are 21,951 confirmed cases and 1103 deaths.

Ville Platte City Council Tuesday meets in a Video conference

Ville Platte City Council Meeting April 14, 2020 The Ville Platte City Council, Tuesday, met by video conference for their monthly meeting. In an effort to follow recommendations to follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the council practiced social distancing through the video conference. The city council approved the appointment of new Interim Fire Chief Fabian Poullard replacing Chris Harrison who retired March 31. Poulllard, who was serving as Assistant Chief has been with the fire service for 19 years. Captain Jacob Demourelle was promoted to become the new Interim Assistant Fire Chief. Also, Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine proudly announced that the first female firefighter has passed all necessary tests. The city council congratulated Courtney Broussard to the fire department. Interim Fire Chief Fabian Poullard announced there were 20 fire calls for March including four house fires and one vehicle call. Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue gave his monthly police activity report. For the month of February, the police department received 575 calls, 37 citations, 34 people were arrested and 12 felony arrests. The police department also worked 22 traffic accidents. Chief Lartigue said he has hired two new certified police officers that will begin work immediately. He also announced that his department has broken the recent rash of business burglaries which solved about 90 percent of all of the unsolved break ins in the past few months. He said a total of eleven suspects were arrested, both adults and juveniles. The juveniles ranged in age from 14-16 years of age. Mayor Jennifer reminds citizens that that city hall is closed to the public. Citizens can drop off their payments in the payment box on the side of city hall. Employees are working on Monday, Wednesday and Friday of each week. She is anticipating a major reduction in sales tax revenues with the Corona Virus closing many offices and businesses. She reminded local residents to stay home and when you do your shopping wear a mask. The mayor also thanked Savoy Medical Center in Mamou for beginning a Covid-19 testing program for parish residents. The mayor reminded citizens with past due utility bills that the city will not cutoff any utility service while the Corona Virus pandemic is going on. However, the homeowner is still responsible for the payment of the bills. The city cannot forgive or waive any past due bills.

Corona Virus Update in Evangeline Parish April 14, 2020 Here are the latest statistics for Evangeline Parish as reported by the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals dealing with the Corona Virus Pandemic: As of today (Monday) Evangeline Parish has 38 confirmed cases of the virus, two more than Sunday with no virus related deaths; In neighboring parishes, St. Landry recorded a total of 114 confirmed cases, one more than Sunday's count with 13 deaths; In Avoyelles Parish, three more confirmed cases, now up to 64 cases with one death; and in Allen parish, one more confirmed cases , now at 74 cases total and still at seven deaths. Statewide, there are now 21,016 confirmed cases and 884 deaths.

Corona Virus Update for Evangeline Parish April 12, 2020 Here are the latest statistics for Evangeline Parish as reported by the La. Department of Health and Hospitals dealing with the Corona Virus Pandemic: As of Sunday April 12, Evangeline Parish had 36 confirmed cases of the virus, two more than Saturday. There were no deaths. In neighboring parishes: St. Landry parish, there were 113 confirmed cases, four more than Saturday, with 11 deaths, in Avoyelles Parish, there were 61 cases, the same as Saturday's total with one death and in Allen Parish, there were 73 confirmed cases, two more cases than Saturday's numbers and seven deaths. Statewide, there were 20,595 confirmed cases with 840 deaths.

Ville Platte Police arrest susuepcts in two separate incidents

Ville Platte Police Chief Neal Lartigue reports two arrests in separate incidents. On Tuesday April 7, 2020, Chief Neal Lartigue and Officers responded to a report of a male subject in an outdoor kitchen. Upon arrival a black male was located and apprehended without incident. Arrested was Jeremie Attle, age 38, of 110 Deville Street, Ville Platte. Attle was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on the charge of unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling. Attle remains incarcerated on a $35,000.00 bond. On Wednesday April 8, 2020 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Officers responded to a disturbance on the 1000 block of Reverend E.D. Alfred Street. Upon arrival a male suspect was cursing and yelling at the homeowner and Officers. While being placed under arrest the suspect assaulted the Officer, fled into the residence and came back outside with a metal pipe and a golf club to attack the Officer again. After a short standoff the suspect locked himself inside the residence. Evangeline Parish Sheriff's Deputies arrived on scene to assist. The door to the residence was forced open and the suspect then resisted arrest again by fighting with Officers and Deputies. A deputy deployed a taser and the suspect complied and was arrested. Paul Bertrand, 36, of 1021 Rev. E.D. Alfred Street was booked into the Ville Platte City Jail on the charges of disturbing the peace, resisting an Officer with force or violence and aggravated assault. Bertrand remains incarcerated on a $13,500.00 bond. Chief Lartigue reminds residents that there are multiple ways to contact the Ville Platte Police Department to report suspicious or illegal activities. If you see something in progress call 911. Corona Virus Update Thursday in Evangeline Parish

Corona Virus Cases Update April 9, 2020 KVPI News has learned that Evangeline Parish now has 31 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus according to information from Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and state officials. That is six more than on Wednesday. No reported deaths. Here are the stats for our neighboring parishes: St. Landry Parish has 90 cases, that is four more cases since Wednesday with 4 deaths. In Avoyelles Parish there are now 56 cases, which is eight more cases from Wednesday with 1 death. In nearby Allen Parish, there are now 66 cases, which is one more case since Wednesday with five deaths. Statewide, there are now 18,283 confirmed cases and 702 reported deaths.

Ville Platte Police arrest six subjects in burglary ring

Ville Platte Police solve Rash of Burglaries over the last Three Months April 9, 2020 Ville Platte City Police Chief Neal Lartigue told KVPI News a rash of business and residential burglaries, going back several months, have been solved. The burglaries go all the way back to November of last year however most of the breakins occurred between January and March of this year. The break in the case came on march 17 when a police officer on patrol performed a traffic stop on a vehicle. The vehicle had several juveniles and a bag with tools and equipment that could be used in a burglary. The traffic stop led to information and evidence to a string of break-ins and burglaries throughout Ville Platte and outside the city limits. Chief Lartigue said detectives have been working countless hours in the three month investigation that led to the arrests of two adults and four juveniles responsible for 22 business break-ins and 5 residential burglaries.. The two adults that were arrested and charged are: Dakollian Deville age 20 of 705 North Thompson, Ville Platte. He was charged with 9 counts of burglary, One count of burglary of a pharmacy, ten counts of criminal damage to property and five counts of theft. The charges stem from multiple cases and the bonds combined to total $580,000. The second adult was identified as Vontrevis Thomas age 23 of 505 West Jackson, Ville Platte. He was charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of criminal damage to property and two counts of theft. His bonds from the multiple charges amount to a total of $120,000. The four juveniles were three 16 year olds and a 15 year old. One of the 16 year olds was charged with curfew violation, possession of burglary tools, illegal possession of a stolen firearm, illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile, three counts of burglary, three counts of criminal damage to property and multiple counts of theft. The other three juvenile suspects were each charged with: curfew violation and possession of burglary tools. Chief Lartigue said more adult and juvenile arrests are pending. He said "We are following other leads and information to make more arrests and solve other reported cases." The police chief stated as this investigation moves forward and arrests are being made, it is important that anyone who may have information on suspects for different break-ins and burglaries, contact the Ville Platte Police Department. Corona Virus Cases Update April 8, 2020 KVPI News has learned that Evangeline Parish has 25 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus according to information from Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine and state officials. That is 2 more than yesterday. No reported deaths. Here are the stats for our neighboring parishes: St. Landry Parish has 86 cases, an increase of 26 since yesterday with 4 deaths. In Avoyelles Parish there are now 48 cases, three more since yesterday with 1 death. In nearby Allen Parish, there are now 65 cases, seven more than yesterday with five deaths. Statewide, there are now 17,030 confirmed cases and 652 reported deaths.

Corona Virus Update April 7, 2020 KVPI News has learned that there was no increase in the number of reported Corona Virus cases in Evangeline Parish in the last 24 hours. Evangeline Parish still has 24 confirmed cases with no deaths. All of our neighboring parishes all showed increases in cases. St. Landry Parish reported 60 cases with four deaths; Allen parish with 58 reported cases and five deaths and Avoyelles Parish with 45 cases and one death. Statewide, we now have 16,284 confirmed cases and 582 deaths.

Corona Virus Update April 20, 2020 KVPI News has learned that Evangeline Parish now has 23 confirmed cases of the Corona Virus, that is four more than yesterday when we had 19. There were no reported deaths in Evangeline Parish. In comparison, in neighboring parishes: Allen parish has 52 confirmed cases and five deaths; St. Landry Parish has 52 cases and 4 deaths, and Avoyelles Parish has reported 40 confirmed cases with one death. Please listen to the recommendation of the Health Care officials, stay at home , stay away from groups, and wash your hands often .
