KVPI Sponsoring Open House Wednesday to honor retiring Bonnie Fontenot

May 21, 2018

KVPI AM/FM and its parent company, Ville Platte Broadcasting Company, are inviting the general public to attend an open house Wednesday May 30 to honor long time KVPI Office Manager and Bookkeeper Bonnie Fontenot. She will be retiring at the end of the month after working more than sixty years with KVPI. Bonnie was employed in 1957 by KVPI’s first general manager Chris Duplechain as a book keeper at the station’s original home, on the second floor of the old Evangeline Bank building on Court Street. Bonnie was among the first female newscasters on local radio back in the 1960’s when she began doing the 3;00pm local news.

The open house is set for 9:00am to 12 noon May 30 at the KVPI business office at 809 West LaSalle Street. There will be cake and refreshments. Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine is expected to make a special announcement and proclamation at about 9:00am live from KVPI. Also, KVPI will be airing an interview we did with Bonnie some ten years ago when she celebrated her 50th anniversary with the radio station. That interview will air Wednesday at 12:30pm.
