The Ville Platte City Council, Tuesday, honored Bobby Soileau Tuesday night during  the council meeting  as Mayor Jennifer Vidrine presented him with a large signed proclamation declaring Bobby Soileau day and presenting him with a large framed photo of the famous high school boxer during his boxing days,. Soileau along with Larry Hollier and Terona Guillory were inducted in to the Louisiana High School Boxers Hall of Fame in Sunset last month. In 1956, Soileau was a NCAA Golden Gloves champion.

     In other business, the council took under advisement a request from Anisson Fontenot for permission to obtain a right of way through city property so Fontenot can access his property on Gabriel Road. Fontenot cannot easily access his property due to the railroad company blocking motorists from crossing the tracks due to parked railroad box cars.

     Engineer Ronnie Landreneau reported that contractors are beginning to install the new smart meters. He also announced that the city will be applying for a street improvement grant so streets in the Northeast side of town can be repaired after the water program is finished in that part of town.

     The engineer said the $12 million dollar project is about 60 percent complete with phase two winding down. He expects two more phases with the final one dealing with changing the water lines on Main and LaSalle streets.

    Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine presented KVPI General Manager Mark Layne a large signed framed proclamation declaring KVPI Day on November 22. KVPI will be celebrating its 60^th birthday on that day with an open house. Layne was accompanied by Office Manager Bonnie Fontenot and  KVPI’s first engineer, Dr. J.S. Fontenot. Earlier in the day, the three along with Becky Vidrine and Charlie Manuel were escorted by Mayor Jennifer to the original KVPI location on the second floor of the old Evangeline Bank building.
