Evangeline Parish School Board Meeting

Evangeline Parish School Board Meeting August 3, 2022 Concerns were raised at the Evangeline Parish School Board Meeting Wednesday night over who has the authority to create new positions. Mamou School Board Member Mike Fontenot asked the superintendent about the apparent creation of three new positions by the superintendent. Fontenot said the three positions were a grants coordinator, inventory supervisor and a facilitator. Superintendent Darwan Lazard commented that those were not new positions. He remarked that someone already working for the system , a technology coordinator is handling inventory responsibilities. There were additional questions dealing with personnel issues that could not be answered due to the fact the board's legal advisor was not present at the meeting. Superintendent of Schools Darwan Lazard and Board President Wayne Dardeau reported that the BESE board in Baton Rouge is considering changing the scoring formulas due to the fact that there are "too many A and B schools" in the state. The formula change would probably drive the scores down in schools around the state. In other business, the school board voted to approve raising the pay for English Language Leaner Tutors to $100 a day or $50 for a half day to attract more people to apply. Also, the school board voted to approve the purchase of a truck or van for the child nutrition program to transport food and supplies between school sites in the parish.
