Fugitive wanted in shooting captured

Angie Lane Fugitive Captured April 5, 2021 Evangeline Parish Sheriff Charles Guillory reported to KVPI News that the fugitive wanted in the shooting incident last Wednesday on Angie Lane was captured by Acadia Parish Deputies. Rodney Van Bernard age 55 of Comanche, Texas was arrested and charged with Aggravated Second Degree Battery with a Firearm. His bond was set by 13th Judicial District Court Judge Gary Ortego at $75,000. He has since been transported and booked into the Evangeline Parish Jail on the charge. The incident occurred Wednesday March 31 at a home on Angie Lane. Sheriff's deputies learned that a verbal altercation occurred between the residents at the home and led to the victim being shot in the lower left leg. Bernard had been seen leaving in a Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The victim was taken to Rapides Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries which were not life threatening.
