The Rotary Club of Ville Platte today (Tuesday) made a presentation to LSU Eunice officials for the Rotary Club scholarship fund. The donation amounted to $5100 and presented by LSU Eunice Scholarship Fund Chairman Dr. William Buller. Accepting the check were Acting Chancellor Dr. William Crowe and Pat Griffith, school enrollment director. Dr. Crowe gave an update on what is going on at the Eunice campus. He announced enrollment is growing. The nursing program has expanded to have the school partner with Lafayette General Medical Center and other medical centers in our area. He reported that local school districts such as Evangeline Parish are teaming up with LSU Eunice to offer dual enrollment college credits while still attending high school. One challenge facing higher education such as LSU Eunice is adequate funding from the state. LSU-E staff members finally received a raise from the state for the first time in eight years. He said the state needs to provide proper and stable funding for all levels of education. He announced that a new chancellor will be selected by July 1. In other news, it was announced that the rotary sponsored "choices" program will be presented in sixteen 8th grade classes throughout Evangeline Parish. Club members will teach the course of instruction that urges students to make the right choices and stay in school Evangeline Chamber of Commerce Director Renee Brown announced that the community cleanup day is planned for this Saturday Feb. 16 from 8:30am to 12 noon.
