WITH HARVEY LOOMING SANDBAGS BECOME AVAILABLE TO ST. LANDRY AND EVANGELINE RESIDENTS

There are many different scenerios as to the path Hurricane Harvey and as he continues to strengthen residents in Texas and Louisiana are bracing for his visit.  One by one local municipalities are making sandbags available.

For residents inside Ville Platte city limits, sandbags are available Friday until 3:00 p.m. at City Barn.  They will open again on Monday morning at 7:00 a.m.

KVPI has been told that the Parish of Evangeline will be handing out sandbags beginning Monday.  Residents will need to go to Parish Yard nearest to where they reside your area to get the sandbags.  According to Secretary/Treasurer Donald Bergeron:  They “made the decision yesterday based on National Weather forecast of 5-7" of rain "for our area between yesterday and next Friday". Today's most recent update "for our area" is 1 inch of rain forecast thru Sunday and a possible 5-7 inches of rain thru next Friday. Granger and the road crews are working overtime to clear as many drainage ditches as possible before then. We are prepared with sand and bags in the event the storm makes a turn for our area.”

For St. Landry Parish residents, the Yambilee Buildling sandbag operation located at 1939 West Landry Streeet in Opelousas is open today and over the weekend from 7:30 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. for those residents needing sandbags.  Please bring your shovel as this is a “fill yourself” site.

KVPI will continue to keep you updated as we wait for Harvey's departure.
