ST. LANDRY PARISH- Early this morning, troopers assigned to Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a single vehicle fatal crash on LA Highway 363 near LA Highway 748 which claimed the life of a 19-year-old man from Ville Platte.
According to investigating troopers, on August 10, 2012, at 1:19 a.m., 19-year-old Chauncey Hesnor of Ville Platte, was driving a 2008 Toyota truck south on LA Highway 363. As Hesnor entered a right curve he crossed the center line and traveled off the left side of the road. After traveling off the road, Hesnor’s vehicle struck two cement culverts, overturned and came to rest in a ditch.
Hesnor, who was not wearing a seat belt, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A passenger in his vehicle, 19-year-old Alex Reed of Vile Platte, was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Reed was properly restrained when the crash occurred.
Troopers suspect Hesnor was impaired by alcohol. Toxicology samples were obtained from Hesnor and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. When he is released from the hospital, Hesnor will be booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail for vehicular homicide, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, no seatbelt and open alcoholic container.
This crash remains under investigation.
