VILLE PLATTE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOLDS JULY MEETING

The Ville Platte Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting Wednesday at Main Street Pizza.  Guest speakers included Dr. William Ward with Clinical Pathology Laboratory located at 503 Jack Miller Road, Suite C in Ville Platte.  They are in the same building as Dr. Aswell and Dr. Lafleur.  Ward explained that their suite has been updated and are open from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The lab is a provider for most insurance companies and they offer excellent pricing for those paying for their own lab services.  Their office can be reached at 363-3310.

Also speaking at the meeting today was Amanda Thomas with SLCC.  She spoke of the services offered at the C.B. Coreil Campus here locally.  The programs offered include: Automotive, General Studies – Business, Medical Assistant, Practical Nursing – Fall 2018, RN Prerequisite courses and welding.  They are considering bringing a CDL program to the campus.  She explained that the ‘HISET’ program is also available at the campus.  This is a test you can take to gain your G.E.D. without having to take the G.E.D. courses.

The Chamber voted four new businesses in as members: Miller’s Sports & Signs, Hotel Cazan, The Grit House with a Twist and Clinical Pathology.

Director of the Chamber, Camille Fontenot, who sits on the Tee-Cotton Bowl Board, said the Bowl is coming along strong.  There will be photographers from all over, NFL players, a parade, fireworks display, a helicopter, and Passe Patout will be shooting their morning show from the event on September 1st.

Fontenot also announced that on July 29th, the main library in Ville Platte will host an event designed for our youth to meet the her as she wants to be the first woman astronaut who will go to Mars in 2033 – Alyssa Carson.  She is a 16-year-old from Baton Rouge.

The Chamber Board hopes to have a much bigger electronic sign up soon donated by the former Citizens Bank.  Investar is the new bank name and they have installed brand new signs.

Fontenot also announced that next month’s Chamber meeting will be held on August 16th at The Grit House with a Twist located in the same parking lot as Champagne’s and Brown’s Furniture.
