BASILE POLICE OFFICER ARRESTED AFTER ALTERCATION WITH FAMILY

In follow-up to the story first reported by KATC, KVPI News has learned that Basile Police Officer and part-time Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Deputy, Nicholas Richardson was arrested today (Friday) and booked on charges of Felony Aggravated Assault with a Firearm; Simple Battery and Malfeasance in Office.

The charges stem from an altercation that took place at the residence of Darrell and Mia Reed on May 17th.  Video surveillance shows Richardson getting out of his police cruiser, pulling his gun from his holster and quickly returning it during a heated exchange between the parties.

Also arrested was Richardson’s father, Grayling Richardson.  He was charged with Criminal Trespassing and Simple Battery.  Allegedly, later in the day he returned to the scene and verbally and physically assaulted the residents.

KVPI News has confirmed with Basile Police Chief, Alton Ivory, Jr., that Richardson has been put on Indefinite Suspension without pay.  Richardson only works part-time with the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office and we could not confirm the formal status of his employment there.

Nick Richardson’s bond was set at $18,000.00 by Judge Gary Ortego and both he and his father have bonded out of jail. (Photo courtesy of KATC footage)
