EVANGELINE PARISH LOSES ONE OF ITS OWN IN OVERNIGHT CRASH

This morning, friends and family are mourning the loss of and remembering Brett Fontenot who was killed in an overnight crash in Evangeline Parish.  According to the Louisiana State Police, on April 28, 2017, shortly before 2:00 am, Louisiana State Police Troop I was notified of a single vehicle fatality crash on US 167 near Alligator Lane.  The crash claimed the life of 22-year-old Brett M. Fontenot of Ville Platte.

The initial investigation by State Police revealed, Fontenot was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on US 167.  For unknown reasons, Fontenot ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected to the left, entered a ditch and overturned.   Fontenot was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle.  Fontenot sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on scene by the Evangeline Parish Coroner’s Office.   It is unknown if impairment was a contributing factor, but standard toxicology results were obtained and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.

This crash remains under investigation.  KVPI News will keep you updated on the status of the investigation and will bring you the funeral arrangements as soon as they are available.
