St. Landry Parish Cattleman's Cook Off took place Sunday in Opelousas

Despite the inclement weather Sunday, crowds of people came out to the 2017 St. Landry Parish Cattleman Association Beef Cook-Off held at the St. Landry Parish Ag Area behind the Yambilee building. The toughest job was given to the judges who had to review more than two dozen cooking teams with a total of 65 dishes. The categories include gourmet, brisket, roast, stew or rice and gravy, tongue, ground meat and miscellaneous. It was announced that the tongue category alone had 11 entries. The aroma of cooked beef attracted the crowds of people. There was music by Alex Touchet and his Cajun Band on the bandstand and a fun jump for the kids. There was also a non motorized trail ride from the Ag arena that morning. Cattleman’s Queen Sadie Ortego from Grand Prairie greeted the cooking teams. Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI did a live remote broadcast at the event Sunday morning.
