United States Attorney Stephanie A. Finley announced that a Bogalusa man pleaded guilty Wednesday to possession with intent to distribute cocaine. Craig Antwon Jefferson, 30, of Bogalusa, La., pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Kathleen Kay to one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. The plea will become final when accepted by U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi.

According to the guilty plea, law enforcement officers pulled over Jefferson’s vehicle April 14, 2016 on Interstate 10 in Calcasieu Parish for a traffic violation. An officer searched the vehicle and found 6.5 pounds of cocaine and 6 grams of marijuana in a backpack. Jefferson faces 10 years to life in prison, eight years of supervised release and a $8 million fine. The court set a sentencing date of May 22, 2017.

Homeland Security Investigations and the Calcasieu Parish Combined Anti-Drug Task Force conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert F. Moore is prosecuting the case. # # #
