Swamp Pop Reunion Dance held Monday Night

SWAMP POP DANCE

FEBRUARY 28, 2017

It was a night of music and memories Monday at the Ville Platte North side Civic Center for the 12th annual Swamp Pop reunion dance. The annual dance was for the benefit of the Swamp Pop Museum. The event has been sold out for weeks. There were visitors from as far away as England and The Netherlands. Over a dozen legends in Swamp Pop music attended the event. The back up Cypress Band had a five piece horn section including Willie Tee and Earl Taylor.

Among the highlights were Johnnie Allan performing “Your Picture” as a tribute to the late Harry Simoneaux who died this past year. Simoneaux played saxophone for Allan’s band , The Krazy Kats, and was on 75 percent of his recordings.

Another highlight was Clint West’s son, Chauncey  performing “Another Saturday Night” and Chauncey’s son, Chase, performing “Our Love” on honor of the late Swamp Pop legend who died last year.

Another highlight was Grace Broussard teaing up with her brother, Van Broussard, performing her Number One national Hit “I’m Leaving It Up To You”.

Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine presented special proclamations to the families of Clint West and Harry Simoneaux.

A special reception was held at the Swamp Pop museum for many of the Swamp pop performers prior to the dance. KVPI-FM 92.5 was there broadcasting live on remote interviewing many of the Swamp Pop stars.

One of the singers, Warren Storm had just turned 80 years this past weekend.
