Evangeline Parish 4-H Show Held at Ag Arena

    Rare Spring-like temperatures brought a large crowd of family, friends and well wishes at the 50th annual Evangeline Parish Jr. Market Animal Sale and Show Saturday at the Chauncey Pitre Ag Arena just west of Ville Platte.

   The showing of animals began Thursday and concluded Saturday at noon. The market animal sale with auctioneer, Col. Ricky Duhon of Basile began at 1:00pm. Volunteers and parents constructed a new larger show arena to exhibit the animals during the sale. Jose Deshotel age 13 also participated as an youth auctioneer.

    A benefit cake and cupcakes, prepared by Uptown cakes, were sold several times  and raised several hundreds of dollars. Retired Evangeline Parish County Agent Keith Fontenot was recognized and honored by current Agent Todd Fontenot for his many years of service to the parish.

    All of the animals shown will compete in the District Livestock show February 1 in Lake Charles.

    KVPI-FM 92.5 was there covering part of the event live with Josh Godwin and Mark Layne.

    Among the winners, Olivia Soileau, a member at large, daughter of Gabe and Caroline Soileau had the grand champion hog; Eli Thomas, a member at large, son of Devon and Sara Thomas showed the grand champion lamb; Madeline Fontenot of Sacred Heart, daughter of Ched and Holly Fontenot showed the grand champion goat; Lane Matte of James Stephens Montessori, daughter of Jared and Kristy Matte showed the grand champion Broiler; Victoria Chaddrick of Bayou Chicot, daughter of Glen and Haley Chaddrick showed the reserve champion hog; Ethan Jose Deshotel, member at large, son of Tim and Amy Deshotel showed the reserve champion lamb; Kaden Fontenot, a member at large,  son of Kane and Greta Fontenot showed the reserve champion goat and Bailey Cormier of WW Stewart school, son of Jason of Jason and Maranda Cormier,  showed the reserve champion broiler.
