Sales Tax Collections Drop throughout Evangeline Parish from last year

      The Evangeline Parish Sales and Use Tax Commission met Wednesday for their monthly meeting. Commission Director Mike Veillon released a report on the comparison on sales tax collections for May of this year as compared to May of last year. Every single municipality and government body showed a decrease from last year.

    Parish wide, sales tax collections were $1.4 million dollars in May of 2016, a 7.88 per cent decrease from May of 2015.

    In municipalities, Turkey Creek reported $12,353 in sales tax for May, a 55 percent drop from May of last year. The Town of Basile showed a 40 percent drop in sales tax collections for the month of May., Basile collected $16,957. The Village of Chataignier collected $2215 in sales taxes for May, that is a drop of 34 percent from last year. Pine Prairie taxes totaled $23,860 for May, a 21 percent drop from May of last y ear. The Town of Mamou collected $48,743, a drop of 8 percent. Ville Platte collected $229,310 in sals taxes, that is a decrease of $7900 or a 3 percent drop from May of last year.

     For parish government agencies, the police jury showed collected $234,036 for May, a decrease of 8 percent. Both the Solid Waste Commisison and the Evangeline Parish School Board showed a 7 percent decrease in sales taxes. The school board collected $572,368 whole the solid waste commission collected $286,184.
