Complete but unofficial election returns shows that most incumbents were re- elected to office in the Primary election.
For Sheriff in Evangeline Parish incumbent Eddie Soileau was re elected with 59 percent of the vote. Soileau got 5217 votes. Coming in second was Sidney Joey Peloquin with 1932 votes, Darin Bordelon received 1191 votes and Andy Gaspard received 456 votes.
The only upset in parish races was recorded in District Two where the incumbent police juror Kenny Burgess was defeated in his bid for re election. His opponent Sidney Fontenot , who was a former police juror, defeated Burgess 485 votes to Burgess 453 votes, a difference of only 32 votes.
In District Four, incumbent Police Juror Lamar Johnson was re elected with 732 votes to his challenger Robert Johnson who received 334 votes.
In District 6, incumbent Eric Soileau won re election with 744 votes while his opponent Donald Vidrine got 248 votes.
In District 7, Incumbent Bryan Vidrine won re election with 597 votes to his two challengers: Kevin Cabon Fontenot with 266 votes and Grant Soileau who received 162 votes.
In District 9 where there are no incumbents, the top vote getter Daniel Arvie with 551 votes will be in a runoff with Shawn Gallow who got 341 votes. Coming in third was Gerald Big D Alfred who got 266 votes.
Both millage tax propositions in the parish were approved. The Town of Mamou one percent millage renewal tax proposal was approved 311 yes and 180 voting no. The Fire Protection District 2 5.63 millage tax renewal was approved 1384 voting yes whole 593 voting no.
For State Representative in the 41st District where the Basile area is part of the District. Phillip Deviller was the top vote getter with 617 votes, Greg Fruge came in second with 220 votes and Germaine Simpson got 117 votes.
In the BESE Board District 5 election, Johnny Fatheree received 2480 votes and Gary Jones got 2317 votes.
In the BESE Board District 8 election, Carolyn Hill received 1475 votes whole Jada Lewis received 1004 votes.
In the State races, here is how Evangeline Parish voters voted: For Governor in the parish John Bel Edwards was the top vote getter with 3467 votes, Scott Angelle with 2548 votes, David Vitter with 1451 votes, Jay Dardenne with 1212 votes, Cary Deaton with 124 votes, S.L. Simpson with 75 votes, Beryl Billiot with 48 votes, JW Odom with 35 votes and Eric Paul Orgeron with 33 votes.
For Lt. Governor: John Young was the top voter with 2592 votes, Kip Holden with 2237 votes, Billy Nungessor with 2180 votes, Elbert Lee Guillory with 1442 votes.
For Secretary of State, Incumbent Tom Schedler with 5262 votes and Chris Tyson with 2665 votes.
For Attorney General, Jeff Landry with 3145 votes, Incumbent Buddy Caldwell with 2840 votes, Geraldine Broussard with 1138 votes, Isaac Jackson with 851 votes and Marty Maley with 195 votes.
For State Treasurer, incumbent John Kennedy with 5802 votes and Jennifer Treadway with 1501 votes.
For State Commissioner of Agriculture, Incumbent Mike Strain with 4596 votes, Charlie Greer with 2606 votes, Jamie LaBranche with 683 votes and Ace Juttner with 203 votes.
For State Commissioner of Insurance, Incumbent Jim Donelon with 4292 votes, Charlotte McGehee with 1374 votes, Donald Hodge with 1294 votes and Matt Parker with 1078 votes.
In the constitutional amendments:
#1 Budget and Transportation Stabilization Trust Amendment: Voters in the parish narrowly turned down the proposal: 3607 voted no while 3452 voted yes; #2- Funds for Transportation 3650 voted Yes while 3627 voted no; Amendment #3 for a fiscal legislative session 4112 voted no while 3027 voted yes; Amendment #4- Property Tax Exemption for Public Land- 3641 voted No and 3496 voted Yes.
