Contredanse Kicks off 2015 Cotton Festival

   A large crowd of people attended the opening event of the 2015 Louisiana Cotton Festival held at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The highlights included the Contredanse and the Crowning of the King and Queen of Heritage Manor Nursing Home.

    Cotton Festival President Pat Derousselle emceed the event.  The Cotton Pickers , under the direction of Renee Brown and Karen Soileau performed for the crowds. This year’s Cotton Pickers are Rebekah Brown, Brook Soileau, Madison Fontenot and Callie Pitre.

     Chosen as New 2015 Heritage Manor King is Andrus Chapman age 92. He replaces  Ammich Stagg. First runnerup is Pershing Jack Deville age 83. Selected as new Queen is Bobbie McCauley  age 76 who replaces Mrs. Dorothy Edward. The first runnerup o the Queen is  Hazel Ortego age 89.

    The young contredanse dancers performed for the crowds. They are under the direction of Anita Fontenot, Melanie Soileau and Robert Soileau. They are: Lilly Blankenship, Grace Bordelon, Tucker Fontenot, Silas Fontenot, Beau Fontenot, Leslie Foreman, Sawyer Jagneaux, Camry Freeman, Keyona Celestine, Kalen Maricle, Deana Blankenship, Aidan Johnson, Bailey Edmond, Kaislyn Lafleur, Max Soileau, Blaigh Williams, Shanijah Edwards, Ava Kordish, Hailey Bordelon, Jakylin Manley and Lawence Simon.

    The Cotton Festival continues Tuesday with the 4-H Cookery contest inside the Civic Center while the 4-H Cotton Pickin Pet Show at 4;00pm. Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI will be there.

Saturday from 10:00a.m. to 3:00p.m. Come view the amazing artifacts, photos,records, Wall of Fame and hear the music.
 

Admission charge is $3 adults,

$2 seniors and $1 for children under 12.
