Ville Platte City Council - October 13, 2015

The Ville Platte City Council

October 13, 2015

The Ville Platte City Council held its monthly meeting tonight at Ville Platte City Hall.  Special Recognition was shown to the Louisiana Rockets Basketball Team for winning the 9th grade National Championship.  Mayor Jennifer Vidrine presented the players and coach with special awards.

Gervis LaFleur with the Evangeline Action Agency spoke to the council and the Mayor about trying to get residents to clean up the City of Ville Platte.  He asked each councilman to be responsible for getting his district cleaned up and getting word to the residents to please get solid trash cans with lids so animals cannot get to the trash and scatter it.  He asked for everyone in the City to work together.

John Deville with The Cajun Catfish Steakhouse addressed the City Council and made a donation to the Boys & Girls Club in the amount of $500.00.  Daniel Young was recognized for receiving a certification to be promoted inside the Sewer Department; and Fred Freeman with Section 8 will now take over as Director.

The Mayor announced she has been traveling to other districts to look at newer fire stations and trucks.  She stated that Ville Platte is in need of a new latter truck and they don’t come cheap.  They are approximately $700,000.00.  She also was very happy to report that they have finally gained approval from the State Fire Marshall for the new Boys & Girls Club.  They target date for opening will be June 1st of 2016 with registration to take place in April or May.

During the Month of September, Ville Platte Police responded to a total of 493 calls for assistance which required 136 reports, 47 misdemeanor arrests and 18 felony arrests with 31 citations and 41 motor vehicle accidents.  The Police Department hired Joshua Bordelon as a new full-time officer and Floyd Tassin as a new part-time officer.
