Abandoned House Owner Appears Before Ville Platte City Council

 

VILLE PLATTE CITY COUNCIL MEETING

   The Ville Platte City Council Tuesday agreed to give a local resident more time to renovate his abandoned home. Linton Tezeno appeared before the city council Tuesday asking for sixty more days to begin work. The council granted a sixty day extension with a $100 good faith bond. His home is located at the corner of Hickory and Young Streets. He plans to complete the renovation work in four phases.

   In other business, the city council approved a recommendation by Mayor Jennifer Vidrine supporting a move to house a new Juvenile Detention Center for Acadiana Youth in the Ville Platte. The state funded facility will employ approximately 90 people.

   Following a public hearing, the Ville Platte City Council adopted a new tougher anti slabbing ordinance with new language to prohibit residents from going around town with trousers hanging so low that their underwear is showing.

   The city council approved declaring May 16-20 as Relay for Life Week in Ville Platte to draw attention to the Relay for Life event on May 21 at Sacred Heart field for the benefit of the American Cancer Society.

    In other action the city council”

--approved renewing its insurance with Dupre, Carrier and Godchaux for fleet and general liability coverage;

--approved a retail liquor license for Angel’s Store to be located on West Main;

--tabled a permit for used car lot at the corner of Alton Lock and MLK Drive to check the residential code;

--heard from Mayor Jennifer Vidrine who announced that she has requested the state police to assist the city police in the investigation into the shooting murder of a local business owner. She also commended Grants Coordinator Sharon Fontenot named as Ville Platte Woman of the Year.
