VILLE PLATTE ROTARY CLUB MEETING
APRIL 15, 2014
The Ville Platte Rotary Club today heard from U.S. Congressman John Fleming who paid a surprise visit to the club. Fleming was accompanied at the meeting by police juror Bryan Vidrine and Turkey Creek Mayor Heather Cloud. The group was meeting with parish officials on economic development issues. Fleming told Rotarians that he is committed to attract new companies and industry to this district to keep our young people at home. Fleming is a physician from Minden and has been in Congress since 2012.
Guest speaker was Susan Fisher, Special Projects Coordinator with the St. Landry/Evangeline United Way. She announced that United Way is planning their 7th Annual Day of Action June 21 and 22 in both parishes. She is asking for volunteers including organizations and school students to plan special activities on those two days. She suggests community projects like painting schools, nursing homes, students reading to children at libraries and beautifying your neighborhood. She is in need of corporate and business support through signs, t shirts and manpower. For more information, you may contact her at United Way at 942-7815. She was the guest of Rotarian David Mayeaux who was in charge of this week’s program.
There will be no rotary club meeting next Tuesday so Rotarians can attend a fellowship meal at Dr. Jerry Veillion’s camp Tuesday night at 6;00pm;
Rotarian Larry Lachney reported that the Sacred Interact Club will soon begin collecting ink pens, back packs and paper clips for their international project.
