Rotary Club Hears From Camp Ryla Students

The Ville Platte Rotary Club today (Tuesday) heard from three Evangeline Parish students who attended Camp RYLA earlier this month. RYLA stands for Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. Rotarian Larry Lachney introduced three students who were awarded special scholarships to attend the annual youth leadership camp held this year at Bayou Signette State Park near Westwego. The students are Gabrielle Fontenot from Sacred Heart along with McKenzie McLinton and Caliah Guillory from Ville Platte High . Gabrielle Fontenot said she enjoyed her time at the camp. ""The camp helped me to work as a team and to be a better leader." Caliah Guillory said "it was a great experience. I gained a new family and I learned why service above self is all about." It was outgoing Peter Strawitz's last club meeting as President. Incoming president Nicole Wenger will begin the new Rotary Year as the head of the local club.
