Election Returns Saturday

      The turnout for Saturday’s election in Evangeline Parish as well as statewide was light due to the few local races to generate a lot of interest among the voters.

    There were no local elections in Evangeline Parish. Here are the parish results:

For Secretary of State:  Angele Davis was the top vote getter with 479 voters, followed by John Shroeder with 407 votes, Derrel Edwards with 358 votes, Neil Riser with 331 votes, Terry Hughes 51 votes and Joseph Little with 32 votes. Statewide, there appears to be a runoff in the works for State Treasurer between Derrell Edwards with 31 percent of the vote and the second place finisher John Shroeder with 24 percent of the vote. Angele Davis was third with 22 percent, Neil Riser with 18 percent, Terry Hughes with 3 percent and Joseph Little with 2 percent of the vote.

     In the amendments: Amendment #1 which offers an exemption of property taxes for construction sites passed by 66 percent of the voters statewide. Here in Evangeline Parish, 1119 votes for and 474 votes no;

      Amendmbet #2- offers homestead exemption for unmarried surviving spouse, 67 percent of the voters statewide said year. Here is Evangeline Parish, voters passed it 1119 votes for and 534 voters no;

      Amendment #3 dedicates any new taxes into a construction sub-fund. That amendment passed statewide by 53 percent of the voters. In Evangeline Parish, it was voted down 822 to 817.

      Special thanks to the Clerk of Court’s staff for their assistance in getting these numbers for our listeners.
