SECURITY TIGHTENS UP AT THE EVANGELINE PARISH COURTHOUSE

The Evangeline Parish Police Jury met Monday night in the Courthouse in Ville Platte.  It was announced that installation of additional new security cameras has begun in key locations in the courthouse to advance security for employees and those who visit.  A metal detector had previously been installed with a Sheriff’s deputy checking those who enter.  Also, purses and cell phones are not allowed into the courthouse.  Now, through a Homeland Security grant in the amount of $33,000.00 and the $7,827.00 contribution by the Police Jury, the new cameras will add additional eyes throughout the courthouse.

The Office of Community Development has announced that homeowners of Evangeline Parish who was affected by the August 2016 flooding are eligible to receive funds for repairs to their homes.  Even if you have begun the repair process, you are still eligible to receive the assistance.  The Police Jury asks that anyone wishing to receive the help, contact their office at 337-363-5651 and they will put you in touch with the proper office with Office of Community Development.

The 2016 Annual Audit Report was presented to the Jury by CPA, Vic Slaven who said it was “a pleasure to present it.”  He continued to say “It gets better and better every year.”  Upon reading the positive findings of the report, he said “My compliments to the Jury and I commend each one of you for a job well done.”

The Jury passed an Endorsement Resolution supporting the creation of a potential manufacturing plant in Evangeline Parish.  It was stated that the company has not purchased any property yet; however, they are interested in forming on the west side of the parish in Ward 2.  If the plant comes to fruition, it would be an approximate $10 million investment with approximately 20 employees earning between $40,000 - $50,000 a year. The Jury is exploring possible incentives to bring the plant here.
