An income tax preparer is urging local residents to be aware there is a new scam involving text messages supposedly coming from the Internal Revenue Service. Annette Johnson, with the C.P.A. firm of Kolder, Champagne, Slaven and Company told KVPI News that one of her clients informed her that she received a text message saying that the IRS had accepted her income tax filing even though Johnson had not filed her return yet. The scam text asked her to go to a website and fill out personal contact information including bank account and social security information. The text message looked authentic. It came ef status tax action.com. Johnson warns residents that the IRS will never call or text tax payers. If you receive such a message or call, please do not give them any information and contact the authorities
