We did it again. KVPI FM, Classic Hits 92.5 KVPi, won Radio Station of the Year for 2018. The awards ceremony took place today in Baton Rouge sponsored by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters. This is the tenth time over the past 15 years we have won this special award for radio stations in our market size. We won the award for our service to the community, local news, local sports, the number of remotes we do at fairs and festivals, and support of Swamp Pop and our Cajun French language. Also in 2017, we increased our power to 25,000 watts to reach more listeners our special programming.
Again, it was a TEAM effort. Every member of our hard working staff helped us achieve our goal. I want to personally thank Charlie Manuel, Jim Soileau, Annona Balfa, Josh Godwin, Carly Chaumont, Swabby Soileau, Gary "A.J." Ten Evangeline Parish "Students of the Year' honorees visited KVPI studios today. They toured our "on air" FM control room with DJ Josh this afternoon. Each of the students were interviewed and their comments about their favorite school courses and their plans for their future will air Wednesday at 12:30pm on KVPI AM and FM. They will be honored by the Evangeline Parish School Board next week in a special gala at the Ville Platte Civic Center. The students that visited with us include Lairian Breaux of Vidrine, Ainsley Dutton of Bayou Chicot, Prisha Makey of Ville Platte High, Leslie Forman of Ville Platte High, Aubree Guillory of Mamou. The Classic Hits 92.5 road crew was at Industrial Service and Supply today to help promote a special visit from Santa and their big holiday sale. Special thanks to Miss Sherry for co-hosting the broadcast, Matt and the whole staff for helping out. Lots of kids came to visit Santa and bought all kids of merchandise.The staff gave away prizes by answering trivia questions and their phones were busy all afternoon. Merry Christmas!
Some 40 students from Danyelle's Early Development Center toured KVPI studios this morning. They learned how our stations operate both on KVPI AM and FM. We also recorded each students wishes for Christmas and we played their comments back today at 12;30pm. Merry Christmas everybody!!

On Saturday, December 9th KVPI’s on the road crew, Becky and Carly, broadcasted live from the 2017 “Christmas in the Village” event that took place at Drouet Park in Turkey Creek, La. Make plans to join the KVPI road crew, Annona and Mark Saturday in Mamou for the Veterans Day celebration. It is one of the oldest and finest Veterans Day observations in Louisiana. Parade lineup is at 10:00am at Mamou High with the parade stepping off at 11:00am down Sixth Street. There will be a Flag ceremony and memorial service after the parade at the American Legion Post home. The Mamou Elementary French immersion students will participate amd Gen. Ben Soileau will be the featured speaker. There will be many vendors selling food, merchandise and beverages. If you can't be there, listen to our broadcast of the parade and events at the Legion Home over KVPI 1050 AM.
The 51st annual Louisiana Swine Festival is going on this weekend in Basile and KVPI was there. The event began Friday night and continues through Sunday. The weather cleared up Saturday for the Pork Cookoff and the music. The Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI road crew, Carly and Mark, were there having a great time and meeting cook off contestants, festival officials and even a judge.
Tuesday, Halloween day, Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI will open up our Halloween Hall of Hits. You'll hear Halloween themed songs like "Thriller", "Spooky" "Witchy Woman" and "Ghostbusters". We'll end the day with three hours of Classic Old Time Radio shows with a spooky Halloween theme from our good friend Jerry Haendiges in California. This week is National 4-H Week and KVPI plans to recognize and promote our 4-H program by having Evangeline Parish 4-H students on the air all week with special 4-H messages. Congratulations to 4-H'ers everywhere.
If you're a fan of the 1960's music, you may want to listen to a radio special Saturday morning at 8:00am on Classic Hits 92.5. It is called "The Doors: The Singles" All Access. You'll hear all of the Doors classic hits and interview clips with all four members of the group including the late Jim Morrison.
A new record crowd attended the KVPI La Tasse de Café reunion at Main Street Pizza. What spurred on all the extra people attending was the fact we had French immersion students from both Mamou and Ville Platte Elementary schools and their French teachers all in attendance to show off their talents in a special showcase. The children got on stage with KVPI hosts Charlie Manuel and Mark Layne and sand two songs in French and led the group in the pledge of allegiance also in French. La Tasse host Jim Soileau did not attend because of his recovery from surgery and Annona Balfa was working on the air. There were special La Tasse de Café mugs and Mamou Cajun Music Festival posters given away in door prizes. The 7th annual Open House of the Louisiana Swamp Pop museum took place Friday and a number of Swamp Pop stars showed up to greet their fans. Classic Hits 92.5 KVPI was there covering it live with a live remote and talking with the performers.
The Basile High Cheerleader squad on Friday stopped at our KVPI studios before going to the Sacred Heart game to record special cheers for our listeners. Our Basile cheerleaders are shown in the FM control room with DJ's Carly and Annona .
Make plans to attend the annual Louisiana Swamp Pop Museum birthday celebration Friday September 15 from 10-2. The museum will be celebrating its 7th anniversary. July was an exciting month in The Non-Blonde Café on Classic Hits 92.5. The 12 Days of Christmas in July Giveways gave listeners a chance to win great prizes and gave followers on Facebook a chance to win as well. Sponsors for the first 11 days included Teet’s Food Store, April’s Place in Pine Prairie, Miracle Detailing, True Value Hardware in Mamou, T-Boys Slaughterhouse, Mel’s Total Fitness, Sa Lumiere Divine, The City of Ville Platte, Blue Bayou and Paul’s Meat Market. Winners walked away with everything from meat, boudin & beer to beautiful wine and bath bomb baskets. The Finale video was posted last Wednesday and ran for a week on Facebook. Listeners to the morning show were also given a chance to call in and register when they heard the “New Orleans Ladies” Cue to Call.
The grand prize includes a two night stay at the Dauphine Hotel in the heart of the French Quarter in New Orleans furnished by The New Orleans Hotel Collection and tickets on the 40-yard line at the first pre-season Saints Game against the Texans on August 26th. Tickets were furnished by Sirius Technologies. The video reached 22,334 people and was viewed 10,000 times on Facebook and You tube. The Grand Prize winner’s name was drawn by an independent agency today and that winner was notified LIVE on the air during The Non-Blonde Café.
